Two thefts occurred on campus in the past two weeks. Money was stolen from a student and a member of the administration. While for now students are advised to lock their rooms, more strict security measures may be taken if needed, AUBG Security Manager Ilko Vangelov said.

Students concerned about draft schedule

The new draft course schedule for Fall 2009 is out. According to the SG, only 21 students complained, whereas complaints last semester reached 60. The draft does not include the courses offered by theater professor Nedyalko Delchev and journalism professor Dinka Spirovska, who are both leaving on sabbatical next semester.

2_fpFor a long time students have been complaining that dormitory services such as the cafeteria and laundry are overpriced. While the laundry service is outsourced, the canteen and cafeteria are not. The administration maintains that AUBG is not making a profit out of those services.

1_fpThe Student Life Improvement Fund has brought brand new TV sets to the main lobbies of the Skaptopara Residence Halls. The new TVs were placed on campus during Spring break and, being plasma, are of considerably better quality than the previous ones.

Students donate blood for emergency

2_fpDuring Spring break, students received an e-mail saying the local hospital needed blood. A young woman in Blagoevgrad had to undergo urgent surgery. Several AUBG students responded to this request and went to the hospital to donate blood.

3_fpStudents benefit in many ways from an upgrade of the university e-mail system; some way are unexpected. Arguably, they will benefit even more when the constant problems in the updated system cease to occur.

Southeast European Studies major dropped from curriculum

1_fpStudents will no longer be able to major in Southeast European Studies (SES). The SES major will be replaced by a minor. This decision was voted at last week's Faculty Assembly. Another decision voted there was that the rhetoric and writing minor will be replaced by a literature minor.

Prerequisites for business courses change

2_fpChanges in the prerequisites for business courses were voted on at last week's Faculty Assembly. Business department chair Julio Pontes foresees no problems in his department in the coming Fall 2009 semester.
