Even in bed some students would rather take a book instead of anything else.

While little children are eating a piece of chocolate per day out of their advent calendars marking the countdown to Christmas Eve, AUBG students are marking down the end of the semester with a Red Bull drink per day. The countdown until winter break has begun.

However, instead of being marked with excitement, it is generally met with misery.

For some of our colleagues studying at the Bulgarian universities, the student holiday on Dec. 8, is an even bigger holiday than Christmas itself. On the other hand, the students whose destiny is to be "future leaders of the region" are reconsidering their party plans in the light (or in the dark) of upcoming finals.

If you, poor AUBG reader, are feeling snowed-in by deadlines this week, you are not alone. If you are taking the International Strategic Management and Policy class and have been struggling with the newly introduced game, don't worry; next semester this will remain only a painful memory deep in your subconscious while your peers are very much struggling with the reality. In case you have encountered  a professor's first attempts to teach Intermediate Accounting at AUBG and feel like a guinea pig, you can safely be assured that it does not get any worse. The Senior Thesis crew can commiserate with each other, but the light at the end of the tunnel is the lack of a state exam. The bright side of being faced with exams, deadlines, papers, and the like, is that any course that you are taking and/or struggling with will soon be over and you will truly be able to enjoy the whole month of holidays.

These two weeks will be tough. You will likely be going to the library far more than Underground, a ratio with very low probability at AUBG. Beware of relationship problems caused by elevated stress. If you see somebody fainting in a lobby, do not panic; this is just a side effect of no sleep, no food, and lots of studying.

If it serves as any consolation: for eighteen years, individuals have been successfully graduating from this institution and even had the energy to pursue a Master's degree. Finals week may just be a feasible undertaking.
